Cola Cubes

Hope and Greenwood

Name
Cola Cubes

Company
Hope And Greenwood
'Purveyors of Splendid Confectionery'

Description
Red coloured cube-shaped lollies with sugar dusting.
Presented in a plastic gift bag complete with ribbon and a wearable badge

Facts
Being a fan of cola lollies coated in sugar I was sure I was onto a winner. What a shock it was to find that these lollies were not jelly as I had assumed but hard. Additionally, the cola flavouring is weak compared to its jelly rivals never really satisfying the need for that artificial colour taste we all recognize.
Having said that, these lollies are brilliant. They are amply sweet and release flavor slowly as it dissolves. The sugar layer is not overpowering and it’s roughness compliments the smooth sides of the lolly cube itself.
Moreover, if you are adventurous enough to bite and crack this cube it dissolves to a soft enough texture that the bitten chunks mix with your saliva and becomes chewy.

Verdict
If you’re after a cola flavoured treat stay away from this one. But for a sweet hit that offers a lot but isn’t overpowering Hope and Greenwood’s Cola Cubes is the way to go.

Maynards Wine Gums

Name
Maynards Wine Gums

Manufacturer
Cadbury

Sugar and Fat (Per 100g)
Fat 0.2g
Sugar 56.2g

Description
Thick round jelly lollies in 5 flavours/colours.
Each colour has a different emblem on the top of the lolly
You can taste the difference between each colour.

Notes
Strong aftertastes from each lolly
Very chewy and thick
The pink colour is the sweetest (and thus my favourite)
The green is the most sour
The purple is the deepest and the only one that remind me of actual wine
Flavour is slow release and changes as lolly is consumed
Green, yellow and orange all are quite sour towards the end compared with the other two
Could be targeting Adult fans of Jelly Lollies in name, branding and lolly consistency.

My Verdict
As far as lollies go, this one is less than enthralling.
